Though not the most comfortable, this has to be one of the most memorable places I have ever slept.

In other news, Max sent God is in the Details, his first V12. We experienced Leavenworth in full swing yesterday as there was a fundraiser for a children's hospital in the shape of a European car rally. And, we are psyched on Gold Bar and hope to make it over the pass sometime this week.

Western Rattlesnake
Saw our first rattlesnakes of the season yesterday in Mad Meadows. First there was a juvenile coiled underneath Drugstore Cowboy, Max's favorite warm up before heading to the project in the Hanta Cave. I saw the second snake later in the evening as we walked back to the car, slithering into an opening between the two boulders that make up Drugstore Cowboy/The Peephole/Occum's Razor. Though I only saw the black and white tail (not that I wanted to see its triangular head) retreating into the dark hole, seeing two snakes hanging around that cluster of rocks makes me think that there may be some sort of den close by.
As if to confirm my suspicions I had a dream last night that Mad Meadows was completely infested with rattlesnakes. There were anywhere from 20-30 snakes in my dream.
Oh and I wont be including any images because lets be honest, no one really wants to look at pictures of snakes. However, here is a helpful link about snakes in Washington.

A Boulder a Day Keeps the Doctor Away
Okay, real post this time.
We have been in Central Washington for a few days, climbing, resting, relaxing and enjoying a pace of life that I haven't experienced in a long time. Leavenworth is a beautiful place and I am happy to finally spend more than an extended weekend exploring Icicle Canyon and the surrounding areas.
I have a few goals for this trip and the one I am focusing on right now is this: become a better climber. I would have said "boulderer" there but for some reason it reads awkwardly. Becoming a better climber is relative. Am I measuring better in terms of strength? Not necessarily, no.
My time in Leavenworth isn't devoted to one or two projects at my limit. Rather, becoming better by gaining more experience on new boulders, topping out as many problems as I can regardless of the grade. Climbing everything I can just so that I will have more experience on rock, something I feel will benefit my ability in the future. Quantity over quality, you might say.
Topping out something new everyday has been working thus far and I am not falling into my usual climbing trip funk - in which nothing seems to hold my attention longer than a few attempts. The motivation has been high and I am excited that this is only the beginning.
More pictures will be included once I get behind the camera, in the meantime here a two more from the Pee Project... such nice views.
